Donation to our funds are welcome and encouraged from congregants and non-congregants alike. If you wish to donate to any of these funds, sending your donation to the chairpersons listed below will facilitate timely acknowledgment. If you would like more information about any of these funds, please contact the chairpersons listed, or the Temple office. Please see the bottom of this page for additional information about sending donations.
TEMPLE FUNDS
These funds are chaired by Carol Ruzow, 652 Northfield Rd, Lititz PA 17543.
- Building Fund - goes to repair and maintenance of our building
- Chavrai Zamir Fund - goes to the volunteer congregational choir for music and equipment
- Cantorial Music Fund - goes to purchase music and equipment for our Cantorial Soloist
- Endowment Fund - any amount accepted, those who contribute $1,000 or more will have their names placed on a plaque permanently displayed and maintained by the Congregation
- Historic Preservation Fund - pays for maintaining archives and items of historical significance
- Klezmer Band --- goes to the Chopped Liver River Band for music and equipment
- Larry Robinson Tikkun Olam Fund - used to help members or organizations in the community
- Lehiyot Fund - “special needs,” used to purchase items to help make our building and activities more accessible to those who are physically and/or mentally challenged
- Miller Music Fund - used to fund our annual Miller Music Festival
- Mitzvah Fund - the Rabbi’s discretionary fund, which he uses for members of the congregation or community who are in need
- Sha’ar L’Atid - the capitol campaign; money will be used to support our congregation into the future
- Jack Paskoff Camper Fund - collects along with the Sofian Youth Fund and the Tree of Life Camperships (Sisterhood) to provide need-based scholarships for Jewish camping
- Peitzman Technology Religious School Fund - used to purchase computer hardware/software for school use
- Gilat Zikkaron “Joy of Remembrance” - This fund was established by John B. Woodward as his Bar Mitzvah project, and is now a permanent part of our donations group. It is in remembrance of Joy Schram, a congregant who passed away in 2005 who had no family left to remember her. After purchasing a perpetual memorial plate and grave marker for Joy, money donated to this fund will be used to help with funeral and related costs for any Shaarai Shomayim member who has no family, or who may not have the financial means to provide for memorial items.
SISTERHOOD FUNDS
These funds are chaired by Sandy Hoover, 117 Greenview Dr, Lancaster PA 17601
- Children's Library Fund - money purchases books and supplies for the library
- Religious School Fund - pays for field trips and special projects
- Sisterhood Improvement Fund - pays for kitchen repairs & replacements
- Sofian Youth Fund --- helps pay for camperships.
- Social Welfare Fund --- used to help members of the Sisterhood or Temple in need.
The following Sisterhod funds are chaired by those listed below:
- Prayerbook and Torah Commentary Fund (handled by Heidi Cohen 717-392-5966) - purchases new prayer books and commentaries for the sanctuary. Please contact Heidi for current costs.
- Tree of Life Fund (chaired by Ilene Schenkel, 1842 Sturbridge Dr., Lancaster, PA 17601) - $50 purchases a leaf in honor of a life-cycle event, achievement, or milestone. May not be used for memorials.
- Uniongrams (chaired by Sharon Randazzo, 352 Squire Lane, Lititz, PA 17543) - For $1 per name, Sisterhood sends a congratulatory note with all contributors' names to Sisterhood members celebrating a milestone birthday (50 or older) and/or anniversary (every five years), all B’nai Mitzvah and Confirmands, and weddings of and births to Sisterhood members and their children. You can also purchase individual Uniongram cards through the Judaica Shop, chaired by Lisa Miller.
- Pulpit Flowers (chaired by Rita Hallock, 717-872-5127) - Purchases flower arrangements for special Shabbats, and replaces the silk arrangement when necessary. Please contact Rita about the cost of a flower arrangement.
BROTHERHOOD FUNDS
This fund is co-chaired by Bobby Dickman and Craig Friedman. Please send donations to the Temple office.
- Israel Scholarship Fund - The men’s auxiliary’s major fundraising efforts go toward providing scholarship money for all our Temple youth who choose to travel to Israel on officially sponsored tours or study programs through NFTY, URJ, etc.
Following these instructions will insure your contributions are handled in a timely manner:
Complete information including for whom, for what occasion, from whom, and familial relationship (if applicable) must accompany a minimum $5 donation (unless otherwise noted.) All contributions will be acknowledged by a note to both donor and donee. Unless otherwise requested, all contributions will be published in the Temple bulletin. Neither Sisterhood, Brotherhood, nor the Temple will bill for donations. The acknowledgment will not be sent, nor will notice be placed in the bulletin until the donation is received.
